Ballroom at Grand Plaza Parkroyal Posted by Hello

Here are my views on the following hotels I have visited to view on their ballroom :-

1) Hotel Rendevzous (Douby ghout) - Lobby area quite small. The ballroom is longish shape, with the stage at one end, meaning the wedding march is quite long. There are 2 pillars blocking at one corner, just next to the stage. However it is not very obvious. The sales coordinator, Nick & Sharon are quite friendly.

2) Meritus Mandarin (Orchard) - They have the following ballrooms :
  • ACT 1 - currently under renovation, so nt sure how it will look like. Max 17 tables.
  • The Belvedere - got 2 nice pillars, but nice ceiling. 36 tables max
  • Mandarin court - got some pillars (ugly ones).
  • Grand ballroom - very very nice, but cater to very big banquets.

One interesting tings to note, instead of So & So wedding sign, they put the pix of yr wedding foto as a signboard outside the ballroom (so guests can recognize face) and very nicely done. The grandballroom and belvedere are quite nice, but mandarin court nt so nice. All ballrooms have big reception area for cocktail and mingling. Classed place too.

3) Carlton Hotel (City Hall) - The pillars are quite ok actually (looks nice) though they do blocked guest's views. There are 2 ballrooms, one for 13 to 16 tables, another for 28 onwards. I attended my colleague's wedding 2 years ago. Food not bad, but the pillars blocked us from viewing the stage.

4) Suntec City - The function rooms ceiling is not very nice.. seems very exhibition style lor. Also, they are not a hotel so their bridal one night stay is at Conrad hotel.. have to walk over.

5) Hilton Hotel (Orchard) - The ballroom is longish type too, but quite small.

6) Raffles The Plaza (City Hall) - I attended my cousin wedding and i felt that all their ballrooms are squeezed together and the reception area is not enough to cater for all.. tend to be v confused because the reception areas are clustered together.

7) Traders Hotel (Orchard) - We went to take a look at their wedding show and the ballroom is rectangular type, with some pillars. The bridal suite is okie. The hotel is also just renovated and looked modern and grand. They are part of the Shangrila group.

8) Plaza Parkroyal (Beach road) - The ballroom is rectangular type with some pillars. However quite small. The bridal suite is very big though. They also have a spa suite which is three times the size of a normal suite. Grand and nice. Newly renovated too.

9) Grand Plaza Parkroyal (City Hall) - The ballroom is rectangular, with no pillar. Our favourite. The bridal suite has a jacuzzi. New too.

10) Sheraton Towers (Newton) - I attended my colleague's wedding and it is indeed very grand. The wedding dinner also have nice themes and special effects, food also very nice. Too bad the min tables required are a lot.

11) Noble House (Tanjong Pagar) - Its a Tung Lok group restaurant. I attended my Uni classmate wedding early this year. The food is so-so. Ambience.. bec my friend has a big wedding so actually quite noisy. And i think noble house is quite open so not as enclosed as hotel ballroom. The interior however is not bad in terms of deco.

12) Orchard Parade Hotel (Club Chinos) - The ballroom is quite ok, rectangular. We have a quick look as someone is having a wedding dinner there.

13) Goodwood Park hotel (Orchard) - The hotel is old and has a lot of history, very English style but nice. However the ballroom is quite small and small pillars along the side. The reception area is very very small, at most 1 bride and some guests. No place for cocktail. They have a pool side and i understand can have poolside wedding if want.

This is just a sample of the card.. with the details deleted away. Just this week, i thought of designing a ecard for official invitation to my friends, and putting the details of the day and maps, so that it be useful for them. Initially wanted to send an ecard from those free cards website but they are not the kind i prefer. So in the end I source for pixs from several websites and use photoshop to add effects to the card. Heee, my brother says why I take so much effort to designing for just an ecard. Recently I have been vexed with some family matters complicated with the coming ROM. Really hope that these problems will be solved soon and the wedding preparation will be smooth sailing and peaceful.

Comments on Bridal Shops

Just to summarise my views on the following bridal shops i visited/seen. These are my personal views :- 1) J&C (Clark Quay) - Basic package: $5K. Not hard selling. Designer is very friendly and professional. Gowns concentrate more on lace. Photography is outsourced to other firms. 2) Flamingo (Tanjong Pagar) - Basic package: $5K. Not hard selling. Designer is not around when we go. The gowns are simple and creative. Photography is outsourced to other firms. 3) U Bridal (Tanjong Pagar) - Basic package: $2K+. Quite Hard selling. It is a new shop set up, so the gowns are very new but not many. Their photos are developed by Kodak, very nice. The Shop asst refused to give negatives even if we offered to pay. Give us the impression that they are not very negotiable. 4) Everbliss (Suntec, Plaza Sing) - Basic package: $2K. Very hard selling. We signed up at their road show. My personal opinion is their gowns are more towards to taiwanese style, heard that they import their gowns from Malay...

Bridal photoshoot!!

Bridal shop: Bridal concept (liang seah street) Photographer: Kit Makeup artist: Lynn 10.00am: We reach bridal concept shop but it is not open. Lynn happen to walk by and told us we are supposed to report to the studio (which is at a nearby building), but kit told us previously to meet at the shop leh?.. Lynn told us our appt is supposed to be 11am, not 10am as the other couple book first on today date. But eeping told us to come at 10am leh?.. So we have to go out jalan while lynn get the other couple ready first.. shucks should have sleep more at home if we know it is 11am for us.. 11.00am: Makeup and dress up for the 1st costume (Ming chu costume). The hairstyle and makeup make me looked like the "san mei" in the drama show "Jie Da huan xi". M keep joking and i am quite irritated. 12.00am: Photographer Kit reach..and start photographing the first costume. Change into the victorian costume with new hairstyle done by Lynn and take more fotos. 1plus: Break for lun...
